This morning I woke up with a distinct feeling. The idea that “The winds of change are coming…”

I am not one who likes to make predictions about what is coming down the road for all of us. The reason being that when I have done that in the past, I turned out to be completely wrong. So now I usually keep my ideas about the future close to the vest.

But this morning, I feel like the Holy Spirit is leaning on me to write about the direction that the culture in America is headed.

Two things come to mind when I think about the next period of time here in America. The first has to do with the country overall. A much larger economic slowdown is headed our way. One that will be akin to the Great Depression in the 1930’s. Our country is in a very similar economic situation to that time period and I think it’s just a matter of time before things being to change for the worse.

The second has to do specifically with Christians in America. I have had the thought/impression that a persecution unlike anything Christians in America has ever see is just around the corner. We already see things trending that direction, and I fear that trend will continue to grow and strengthen.

I believe what we are seeing are the growth of the situations described in Revelation 6 that will ultimately lead to the end times scenario that we see in Revelation and the second coming of Jesus… I have to be honest, I just started silently chuckling because I had the thought that I just lost some my readers there… “Great another end times predictor… Just what we need”

Well, maybe it is what we need. In Revelation 6, there are verses that describe the third and fifth seals. And for me the “seals” of the scroll represent types of situations that will lead up to the beginning of the Tribulation. They are akin to what Jesus called “the beginning of birth pains.(Matthew 24:8 NIV)” The think with birth pains is the start out slow and weak and grow stronger and closer together as the time gets closer.

Revelation 6:5-6 NIV
[5] When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. [6] Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “Two pounds of wheat for a day’s wages, and six pounds of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!”

Revelation 6:9-11 NIV
[9] When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. [10] They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” [11] Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been.

I believe if you review all 6 of the seals, you would agree with me that they are all situations that are not just happening in our world today but getting increasingly stronger as well. But my impression of “the winds of change” really centered around the two quoted above.

Again, this is not just something I am typing out of the blue to get readers. I truly believe this is an impression on my heart from the Holy Spirit to begin to awaken the Church in America to the fact that things are going to get tough. For all of us, but specifically for us as Christians.

Now, more than ever, we need to begin to band together to build a support foundation for the tough times to come. It’s time to drop the lofty doctrinal and denominational differences and focus on the base foundational Christian beliefs we all agree on. We need to do this so we can begin to work together and prepare for whatever may come our way.
