Honestly, this is a question that I have had to entertain in conversations with people who are both exploring God and moving away from God. So to put it bluntly, What gives God the right to boss me around?

As I think back to the sermon I heard this weekend from Pastor Jeff Manion, it really comes down to two obvious reasons that can be found in the 1st chapter of .

1. He Made Us
2. He bought us

He Made Us

16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. (Colossians 1:16-17)

When Paul writes “all things were created” that means you and me! When I say he made us – seriously he made us and everything around us. Not only did he create us but he created us for him! We owe our existence to him…

He Bought Us

21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical bodythrough death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation (Colossians 1:21-22)

Paul makes it very clear that Jesus bought us by using the word reconcile. To reconcile something is to buy it at a price – the price Jesus paid for us – The Cross…
Jesus, the Son of God, the very image of God on Earth – became our substitute suffer and paid the death penalty that should have been ours. Why? so he could “present you holy in his[God’s] sight, without blemish and free from accusation.”

A Daily Reminder

So we know why we should keep God at the center of our lives… But how do we do that? I would suggest (based on a suggestion from Pastor Manion) that you memorize and repeat the following three lines multiple times per day….
